Full job description
About Plank Construction
Plank Construction is a general contracting and property management operation serving Winterville, Greenville, and the surrounding eastern North Carolina communities. We handle residential and light commercial work across a wide range of trades, and we manage rental properties through our sister operation, Plank Management. We are a small, owner-operated business that takes pride in clean work, clear communication, and treating both customers and crew right.
Position Summary
We are hiring an Operations Manager to run the daily business so ownership can stay focused on growth and leadership. This role sits at the center of everything we do: money in and out, jobs moving on schedule, customers and subs in the loop, marketing humming, and our software systems telling the truth about how every project is performing.
The right person is organized, technically capable, comfortable in both an office chair and a pair of work boots, and ready to own outcomes rather than just check boxes. You will have real authority to improve how this company runs.
What You'll Do
Financial Operations
Manage accounts receivable: invoicing, collections, payment posting, and customer billing questions
Manage accounts payable: vendor and subcontractor bills, lien waivers, payment scheduling
Run weekly payroll for office and field staff, including time tracking review
Reconcile accounts and prepare monthly summaries for ownership
Software Systems and Job Performance Tracking
Maintain Buildium for property management work: unit records, tenant ledgers, maintenance work orders, owner statements
Maintain JobTread for construction work: job setup, budgets, schedules, change orders, daily logs, photo documentation
Track every active job against budget and schedule; flag variances early so we can correct course before they become losses
Generate weekly and monthly reports on job profitability, A/R aging, and pipeline health
Field Operations
Visit active job sites regularly to verify progress, document conditions, and address issues in real time
Attend initial scope walks with customers and subcontractors to capture notes, photos, and measurements that feed estimates
Coordinate with crew leads on material deliveries, sequencing, and punch list completion
Recruit and interview subcontractors
Permitting and Inspections
Pull permits through Pitt County, Greenville, Winterville, and surrounding jurisdictions
Schedule inspections, communicate results back to ownership and crews, and route corrections through to completion
Scheduling and Coordination
Build and maintain the weekly job schedule across crews, subcontractors, and ongoing maintenance work
Schedule and confirm subcontractors (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, flooring, and others) with clear scopes and expectations
Resolve schedule conflicts and weather impacts proactively
Customer Relations
Serve as the primary point of contact for customers between scope walks and project close
Return calls and messages promptly, provide proactive updates, and handle questions about scope, schedule, and billing
Capture feedback and request reviews after project completion
Hiring and Workforce
Source candidates for field and trade positions, screen applications, schedule interviews
Handle onboarding paperwork, I-9s, W-4s, and safety orientation
Maintain personnel files and assist with workforce planning
Marketing and Web Presence
Manage Plank Construction's social media accounts: post project photos, customer wins, and seasonal content on a consistent schedule
Keep the website current: services, project gallery, contact information, blog updates
Coordinate with any outside marketing or content support as needed
Process Improvement
Document current workflows and identify where small changes save real time or money
Build templates, checklists, and SOPs that the team will actually use
Recommend software, automation, or workflow changes to ownership and implement what gets approved
Administrative
Make deposits and move money as needed
Manage phone calls and schedules
Office presence
What We're Looking For
Required
3+ years of operations, office management, or coordinator experience, ideally in construction, property management, trades, or a closely related field
Strong working knowledge of accounting basics (A/R, A/P, payroll), with hands-on QuickBooks or similar experience
Comfortable learning and owning construction and property management software
Excellent written and verbal communication; you can talk to a homeowner, a subcontractor, and an inspector in the same hour and sound right to each
Strong organizational skills with the discipline to track many balls at once
Valid NC driver's license, reliable vehicle, and willingness to drive to job sites regularly
Comfortable on an active construction site (uneven ground, dust, ladders) with appropriate PPE
Preferred
Direct experience with Buildium and JobTread, or comparable construction and property management platforms
Familiarity with NC general contracting requirements, permitting workflows, and Pitt County jurisdictions
Social media content creation experience (Instagram, Facebook, basic photo editing)
Notary public, or willingness to become one
What We Offer
Stable, year-round work with a small, owner-operated team that respects your time
A genuine seat at the table: your ideas on how to run the business better will get heard and acted on
Real variety in your day; never the same week twice
Room to grow as the business grows

Please apply and include a cover letter specific to this job posting. Please include any examples of process improvements you have owned or systems you have set up in past roles.
Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
